The 'European Agency for Reconstruction' ('EAR'), an
agency of the European Union was set up in
2000. Its headquarters are in
Thessaloniki,
Greece, and it has operational centres in
Belgrade,
Priština,
Podgorica, and
Skopje.
Its task is to manage the main
European Union programmes for providing
reconstruction assistance, worth about 2 billion
euros a year, to countries throughout the
Balkan region affected by wars in the
1990s.
