EURASIA (NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR)

Eurasia is purple on the fictitious 1984 world map
'Eurasia' is one of three superstates in George Orwell's novel ''Nineteen Eighty-Four'', the others being Eastasia and Oceania. Eurasia comprises all of mainland Europe, modern day Russia, and a fluctuating amount of Manchuria, Mongolia, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. Its political ideology is Neo-Bolshevism. Eurasia has been at war with both Eastasia and Oceania. It is implied that Eurasia was formed from the Soviet Union. Goldstein's book states that the war with both Eurasia and Eastasia is not a war in the traditional sense, but simply exists to use up resources and keep the population in line. Victory for any side isn't possible or desirable, but the Inner Party through an act of doublethink believes that such victory is in fact possible. It is believed by some that the war with Eurasia was actually a hoax.
According to Goldstein's book, Eurasia's main natural defence is its vast landspaces.
