'East Whitby Township' is a former municipality in
Durham Region,
Ontario,
Canada. It is now part of the City of
Oshawa.
Originally part of
Whitby Township in what was then
Ontario County, Ontario, East Whitby was created from the eastern portion of the township in
1858. The township surrounded the then Town of Oshawa and portions of land were annexed from the township over the years.
As part of the municipal restructuring that accompanied the creation of the Regional Municipality of Durham in
1974, East Whitby was amalgamated with Oshawa to create an expanded City of Oshawa.
