'Drakenstein Municipality' is a municipality located in the
Western Cape Province of
South Africa. As of
2001, the population is 194,419. Its municipality code is WC023.
Government
The newly formed DA/ID coalition nominated Koos Louw from the DA on April 19th, 2007, to become mayor of the Drakenstein Local Municipality. Wilhelm Nothnagel, from the ID, is set to retain the deputy mayor's position while Billy Ross, also from the ID, will take over the speaker's position.
Drakenstein is divided into thirty one wards, with a total of sixty one councillors.
Geography
The municipality has a total area of 1,538 km².
The Drakenstein Municapilty consists of the towns Paarl, Wellington and Saron (including Gouda and Hermon.)
