Dr. 'Yacob Hailemariam' is a retired professor of business law at
Norfolk State University; former Senior Prosecutor for the
International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda; and an elected member of the
Ethiopian parliament.
In 2004 he put his career on hold to travel to his homeland of Ethiopia to run as an candidate for parliament in his home district. He was duly elected in the
2005 general election but was subsequently arrested in a government crackdown on the Coalition for Unity and Democracy political party, following electoral disputes. He has been held in Kaliti prison in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia since October 31, 2005.
