DOURO-DUMMER, ONTARIO

'Douro-Dummer' is a township in central-eastern Ontario, Canada in Peterborough County. It is located on the Trent-Severn Waterway. Douro is host of some great drumlins and can be known as the Drumlins of Douro.
Douro has a history of tradition. Throughout the years, Douro has held the Leahy Sleigh Ride, a community gathering in which people of all ages can toboggan. At the Sleigh Ride, there is hot chocolate, local music (fiddling), and activities like snowshoeing, the scavenger hunt and the log cutting contest. On stage, contests are run. Every year there is a search for the person from the farthest place, the youngest person there, the eldest person etc. Teams of horses take the people down to the hill and everyone enjoys the event.
Probably one of Douro's most famed events is the Douro Doings. The Douro Doings occurs on Labour Day weekend, rain or shine. At the Doings, there is a car show, where old cars from almost everywhere come. All weekend there is a baseball tournament, three pitch and fastball teams try to claim the free turkey dinner at the hall on the last day of the Doings. There is a horseshoe competition. On the last day of the Doings there is the famous 10K race. Also children participate in races and the frog jump. After the day is over, Douroians go to the hall and enjoy a turkey dinner, some bingo and the quilt raffle. Douro has also just announced that they will be housing a Jr. A hockey club called the Douro Dukes of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League.
