![]() | West Highland Way 2005 Part 1 The 95-mile West Highland Way became Scotland's first official Long Distance Footpath when it officially opened on 6th Oct. 1980. The walk commences at Milngavie and takes the walker through varied terrain, beneath Mugdock Castle, past Scotland's oldest Inn, along the shores of Loch Lomond under the shadow of Ben Lomond, past Inversnaid and Rob Roy's cave then onto Doune bothy and up to the ruins of Blarstainge en route to Inverarnan beneath the Beinglas Falls. Thereafter, the Way passes the Falls of Falloch en route to Tyndrum, over the Scheduled Ancient Monument of the Bridge of Orchy before going over Rannoch Moor beneath the Fleming memorial and past Blackrock Cottage before ascending the Devil's Staircase towards Kinlocleven and onwards over a mountain pass en route to Fort William. |
