DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY (ILLINOIS)
'Dominican University' is a private university located in River Forest, Illinois. The school began as St. Clara Academy, chartered by Samuel Charles Mazzuchelli in 1848 in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. It became a college in 1901 and moved to River Forest, Illinois in 1922. This move was accomplished under the leadership of the Mother Samuel Coughlin, the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters of the Most Holy Rosary and involved a change in name to Rosary College. The present name of Dominican University was adopted in 1997.
'Mission:' As a Sinsinawa Dominican-sponsored institution, Dominican University prepares students to pursue truth, to give compassionate service and to participate in the creation of a more just and humane world.

Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS)
The Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at Dominican offers a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) as well as a Master of Science (MS) in Knowledge Management. Recognized since 1936, GSLIS provides the only master's degree program in the Chicago area that is accredited by the American Library Association. The GSLIS is housed in the Rebecca Crown Library on the Dominican campus in River Forest. Classes are regularly scheduled off-site, including in the Chicago Loop. In addition, the GSLIS offers courses at the College of St. Catherine, an all-female college in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, and an Alliance program with classes in Peoria.
The GSLIS publishes a semi-annual, peer-reviewed online journal called ''World Libraries'', a publication dedicated to "librarians and libraries in regions without associations or agencies to encourage scholarly communication and professional development." The publication of ''World Libraries'' is coordinated by students studying internet publishing.
The school also presents a number of annual lectures in the field of library science, including the class=wikiexternal target=_blank>McCusker, Lazerow , and C.W. Follett Lectures.
Dominican University offers a ''School Library Media Program'', which is "designed to educate school library media specialists at the elementary, middle and secondary school levels." Once a student has completed the program, he or she can apply for an Illinois Special (K-12) Certificate (Type 10) with an endorsement in library science.
The GSLIS also offers Post-Graduate Certificates in Knowledge Management, School Library Media, and Special Study (a plan of study in a particular area of Library and Information Science)..

[2]The School of Education traces its roots to the programs of teacher preparation offered at St Clara College. Always responsive to the evolving needs of schools in society, the School of Education offers six graduate degree programs, two graduate certification entitlement programs and four graduate programs leading to state endorsements. In collaboration with the Dominican University Rosary College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Eduation prepares undergraduates for teaching certification.

[4]The School of Leadership and Continuing Studies (SLCS) at Dominican University is an academic division specifically created to serve the needs of the busy adult learner. The SLCS administers two accelerated degrees: The Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership (BSOL) and the Master of Science in Organiztional Leadership (MSOL). Both programs provide adult learners with the opportunity to complete an undergraduate or graduate degree in an accelerated format. Additionally, SLCS offers a combined face-to-face/online graduate leadership degree that is focused on Family Ministry & Faith Development. Earning these degrees offers adult students an opportunity to develop and fine-tune existing leadership skills that can ultimately lead to career advancement and personal fulfillment.
The SLCS' mission is to develop each student's natural gifts while leading him or her in a direction that will result in a journey that is meaningul and enlightening.

Athletics
The Dominican University Stars compete at NCAA Division III in the Northern Athletics Conference. Sports include basketball, soccer, cross country, tennis, baseball, and softball.
Prior to 1997, the athletic teams of the all-women's Rosary College were known as the ''Rosary Beads''.
