This term has different meanings in different scopes:
In computer science:
# The capability to obtain data from a storage device, or to enter data into a storage device, in a sequence independent of their relative positions by means of addresses that indicate the physical location of the data.
# Pertaining to the organization and access method that must be used for a storage structure in which locations of records are determined by their keys, without reference to an index or to other records that may have been previously accessed.

★ The Direct Access Scheme allows a person over the age of 21 to avoid the two year/25 kW restriction by taking the practical test on a machine of at least 35 kW (46.6 bhp). A motorcyclist may ride any size of bike after passing the Direct Access test. Before taking the practical test the motorcyclist must have successfully completed Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), the Motorcycle Theory Test and have the correct provisional entitlement on their driving licence.
