The 'Defence Procurement Agency' ('DPA'), was an
Executive Agency of the
United Kingdom Ministry of Defence responsible for the acquisition of
materiel, equipment and services, for the
British armed forces.
Its headquarters was located in
Bristol and it shared its site with the Director General Logistics (Fleet)-DGLog(Fleet)- element of the
Defence Logistics Organisation.
As of
April 1 2007 the DPA was merged with the DLO to form a new organisation called
Defence Equipment & Support.
History
The Defence Procurement Agency was established on
April 1,
1999, after the announcement in the
Strategic Defence Review of a specialised agency to succeed the 'Procurement Executive'.
At the time of creation of DE&S, the DPA was headed by the Chief Executive, Sir Peter Spencer, who also held the title
Chief of Defence Procurement. The
Minister for Defence Procurement was
Lord Drayson.
