History

He is the former great nephew of Pat Evans and was later joined by his dad Kevin (played by Phil Daniels) and sister Carly (played by Kellie Shirley).
Deano convinced Pat to let him stay with her, after telling her his father had died a few weeks previously in a car accident. (This later turned out to be a lie when Deano's father arrived on the Square.) Deano soon befriended Dawn Swann, who rejected his flirtatious advances, and Gus Smith, whom he helped in his campaign to free his imprisoned dog, Wellard. However
his intention was not to help Gus but to make some money, when he placed a bet on the outcome of Wellard's court case.
On 24 January 2006, he and Stacey Slater went to the Scarlet nightclub taking newcomer Bradley Branning, grandson of Jim Branning, with them. Deano wanted Stacey to lighten up as she was in a bad mood, so he spiked her drink with a drug. On her way home from the club, Stacey collapsed on the street. Deano and Bradley found her and Deano went to get some blankets to keep her warm. When Bradley picked Stacey up and put her on a bench, she woke up and hit him because she thought he was attacking her. After Bradley was arrested for attempted rape, Deano felt gulity that it was all his fault and admitted to Stacey he spiked her drink. She then flew into a rage and slapped him. Deano went to the police and confessed he had spiked Stacey's drink. He begged the police not to put him in jail, as he only wanted to cheer Stacey up. Bradley was finally released and Deano asked him to forgive him and be friends again. But Bradley refused, saying he was never really Deano's friend.
When Dawn had a terrible date with a wine merchant, which reduced her to tears in the café, Deano showed his caring side and comforted the upset girl. He gave her his jacket and a scarf to wear as he walked her home, which sparked rumours that Deano and Dawn were soon to become an item.
During a conversation with Pat, Kevin revealed that he'd had another son, James (or Jimbo) Wicks. Lively Jimbo had died of cystic fibrosis, and quiet Dean had promised to do all the things Jimbo never got to. Dean became Deano overnight, after Jimbo's death, as Jimbo was his best friend as well as his brother. On the fifth anniversary of Jimbo's death, Deano nearly crashed into Dr. Oliver Cousins' car and stole the Queen Victoria bust from Grant Mitchell, twice.
In late 2006, Kevin took his children, along with Denise and her family, and Patrick and Yolande Trueman on holiday to Dorset. Deano's mother and Kevin's ex-wife Shirley was tipped off that they were there by Kevin's old friend Dylan. Shirley broke into Kevin's minivan, discovering where Kevin, Deano and Carly were now living. She deliberately bumped into her children and pretended to be a stranger, as they had not seen her since they were children. She later came to the holiday house and Kevin was surprised to see her. He told her to leave him, Deano and Carly alone.
On 1 January 2007, Shirley came to Walford to see Carly and Deano. She walked into Kevin, and he dragged her into the men's public toilets, where he made her beg to see the children. Carly saw them fighting outside and worked out that Shirley was her mother. Carly deliberately bumped into Shirley, pretending she didn't know who she was, and invited her back to their home. Kevin and Denise returned home, and while Shirley took a bath, Carly forced Kevin to admit that Shirley was their mother. When Shirley returned downstairs, she asked Carly and Deano if they had a hug for their mother. Carly threw her out, and she later gave her address to Denise, who later passed it on to a depressed Deano. Deano eventually paid her a visit only to see her through the window, drunk with a man.
On 15 January 2007, after weeks over going off the rails, Deano crashed a car, injuring Abi Branning and Chelsea Fox. Deano was fighting for his life in hospital. Shirley turned up at the hospital to see Deano, much to Kevin's dismay.
Shirley decided to leave her family again, but when Deano told Kevin that he thought Shirley had left seventeen years previously because of him, Kevin made Shirley stay to put things right with Deano. She then got a job and a flat locally, saying she was staying around. She bribed Kevin with a secret that he was keeping from Deano and Carly. Shirly later told the secret to Pat Evans, and when Carly was suspicious, she and Deano forced Kevin to tell them the truth — that he was not their real father. Shirley revealed that both Carly and Deano had been the products of one-night stands, and that she could not even remember the name of Deano's real father. Deano was devastated by this news and after shouting at Kevin, he stormed out of the house. He was found by Martin Fowler at the allotments drinking and afterwards he went to the car lot and splashed petrol all over the portakabin. He pulled out a lighter ready to commit suicide but was found by Kevin before he did it. Deano still threatened to torch the car lot but after Kevin explained that he had always loved him and cared for him as if he were his real son, Deano broke down crying and into Kevin's arms. Carly's forgiveness of Kevin did not match up to Deano's however and while Carly was helping Kevin prepare a meal for Jimbo's birthday on 1 February, the two got into a blazing row. Carly smashed up the dishes and raged that Kevin was nothing but a fake and told him to leave as he had always wanted to. Deeply hurt by Carly's rejection, Kevin drove away from Walford. Deano was distraught by his dad's disappearance and always supsected that Carly had more of a role in Kevin's departure than she was letting on. He also expressed anger when Denise made insensitive comments about Kevin and when Carly threw all his clothes out onto the street. Kevin eventually returned to Walford and Carly was the first to see him but yet again he faced rejection from her and she didn't inform her family of his return. The next morning, after Kevin had ended up in bed with Shirley, Kevin set out to re-build his family and sent a text to Deano from Shirley's phone, telling him to go to the allotments. Deano was delighted to see him and convinced him to go and find Carly, unaware of the confrontation between the two the previous night. Deano hid away ready to take a photo of Carly's reaction when she saw Kevin but was stunned to see Carly reject him and mention seeing him the night before. Deano worked out that Carly was responsible for Kevin's exit and raged at her, but Kevin managed to settle him. Deano later joined Kevin and Pat for a drink closely followed by Carly, and the family agreed to be together again.
Kevin got engaged to Denise but Deano was upset and angry when Denise chose 27 April as the wedding date, the anniversary of his deceased brother Jimbo's death. Deano defiantly refused to attend the wedding, feeling it was betraying his brother's memory, and he stayed with Shirley to get away from everyone else. After Kevin showed Deano a family video of Jimbo as a youngster, he stormed out even more upset but Shirley followed and comforted him, after which he announced he was moving in with her permanently. Deano eventually relented and attended Kevin's stag night with Patrick where he told Kevin he would come to the wedding after all. The wedding went ahead despite Kevin's revelation that he slept with Shirley, and Deano joined in the celebrations back at Pat's house.
Later on in May 2007, Deano had sex with Stacey Slater, who was heartbroken over her lover Max Branning's departure. However he was left crushed when she blew him off the next day, hoping he'd get the message that she wasn't interested in him and that it was just a one-night stand.
In July 2007 he tried to attack Sean Slater with a wooden plank but failed. After being taken home, Chelsea told him that they would get revenge on Sean.
In August 2007, Chelsea and Deano swore revenge against Sean, as Sean had an argument with Patrick Trueman, and later Patrick was attacked while in the shop. Chelsea and Deano rang the police, claiming that they had seen Sean enter the shop before Patrick was attacked. After writing about their relationships with Sean for the police, they left only to see Sean being taken to a cell by police, meaning Sean knew that Chelsea and Deano were the witnesses. Sean yelled at them that they were dead. A few days later Deano wanted to withdraw his statement. Chelsea got very upset and kissed him. Deano has recently been viciously beaten by thugs sent by Sean after he swore revenge.
On September 6, just as Denise had hired a press staff to say how 'brave' Chelsea and Deano was for being witnesses, The police and DS Dunn invited themselves into 'The Queen Victoria' arresting Chelsea and Deano much as the result to the shocked family, who tried to stop them.
Whilst DS Dunn was interviewing Chelsea, Deano was interviewed in another room by another DS. Deano tried to lie about what happened, but things got complicated and out of control. When the DS showed him the CCTV tape of the scene where Patrick was attacked, things didn't quite go as planned. Deano tried to convince DS of what happened this was when they were eventually imprisoned.
Whilst being escorted to their separate cells, Deano broke down in tears - as Chelsea was too also regretting for what they had done to poor Patrick. Much to the result of the scene where Chelsea is in her cell, on a wall with a script on her left written 'ur screwed'.
Deano and Chelsea were subsequently remanded in custody after they confessed their statements were false.
