A 'day neutral plant' does not require a specific day length to flower. It is neither a
short day plant nor a
long day plant.
Day neutral plants flower after attaining an overall developmental stage or age, or in response to alternative environmental stimuli, rather than in response to
photoperiod.
Examples of day neutral plants:
★
Cucumber (''Cucumis'' sp.),
★
Tomato (''Lycopersicum'' sp.),
★
Potato (''Solanum tuberosum''),
★
Fava bean (''Vicia faba''),
★
Rose (''Rosa'' sp.).
★
Maize (''Zea mays, L.) - temperate zone cultivars - many tropical cultivars are
short day plants.
