Sir 'David Hare' (born
June 5,
1947) is an
English dramatist and director.
Hare was born in
Sussex and was educated at
Lancing College and at
Jesus College, Cambridge. His first play, ''Slag'', was produced in 1970. In 1973, he was appointed resident dramatist to the
Nottingham Playhouse, a major provincial theatre. In 1975, he helped found the
Joint Stock Theatre Company.
He was knighted in 1998. He is married to the
Algerian fashion designer
Nicole Farhi.
