'David Bennett Hill' (b.

Montour Falls, New York - d.

Albany, New York) was a
Governor of New York and a
Bourbon Democrat.
Before serving as the Governor, he served as
mayor of
Elmira, New York and the
lieutenant governor of
New York. He was the
Governor from 1885 to 1891. He was defeated for governor in 1894.
He served as a U.S.
Senator from New York between 1892 and 1897. He was also a candidate for Democratic nomination for President in 1892, but lost the nomination to
Grover Cleveland, who later won the
presidential election.
During his term as
governor,
William Kemmler was executed in the
electric chair, the first inmate in the country ever to be put to death in this fashion.
