'Dandi' is a small village in the district of
Navsari,
Gujarat,
India. It is located on the coast of the
Arabian Sea near the city of
Navsari.
It shot into worldwide prominence in
1930 when
Mahatma Gandhi selected it to be the place for the
Salt Satyagraha. He marched from
Ahmedabad to Dandi with some of his followers to protest against the imposition of a tax on salt. It could be said that in this village the beginning of the fall of
British rule in India started.
