In Aztec mythology, 'Coxcox' was the only male survivor of a worldwide flood. The Aztecs believed that two persons survived the flood. These were a man
named Coxcox, and his wife. Ancient Aztec paintings often depict a boat floating on the
waters of the flood. The boat floats beside a mountain, while the heads of a man and a
woman are shown in the air above the boat. A dove is also depicted. In its mouth the dove
carries a hieroglyphical symbol representing the languages of the world, which it is
distributing to the children of Coxcox.
