![]() | Canadian paper says Sri Lanka can capture terrorist territory at the year's end A Canadian paper has expressed optimism that the Sri Lankan Government will be able to achieve its goal of capturing all territory occupied by the LTTE at the year's end. "Vancouver Sun", in a news feature said since 2006, the Government troops have had a steady succession of victories aiming at this target. The news feature by Jonathan Manthorpe said the offensive launched two years ago by the Sri Lankan Government forces against the Tamil tiger terrorists took a new momentum in the past few days with the capture of Veditthaltivu, a key Naval Base of the terrorists. The Canadian newspaper pointed out that the Government troops took this port town in the Northwestern coast after heavy fighting. The port has been a base for the terrorists and is an important entry point for arms and other supplies smuggled in, mostly across the Palk Strait. It said the soldiers swiftly consolidated their hold on Veditthaltivu and pursued the tigers Northwards, attacking them with all force and helicopter gun ships. |
![]() | Papermill To Cut 171 Jobs Montreal's unpronounceably--named AbitibiBowater Inc., North America's third largest pulp and paper concern, will cut more than one-third of the union jobs at its Newfoundland plant. The papermill at Grand Falls Windsor is one of the largest employers in central Newfoundland, but has long been plagued by financial problems and a weak market. 171 jobs will be lost under a restructuring plan. George McDonald, local president for the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union, told CBC News that the laborers, carpenters and finishers he represents are in disbelief. McDondald sad that..."The only way you can run that mill, by cutting that local in half, is by bringing in a private contractor to do it. These people deserve these jobs, they gave their life to this company." AbitibiBowater Inc. was formed last year through the merger of South Carolina's Bowater and Montreal's Abitibi-Consolidated. |
![]() | USSR liberated Europe from Fascism!☭ USSR liberated Europe from Nazism!! http://www.marxists.org/espanol/trotsky/1940s/dm/indice.htm http://www.spartacist.org/english/wv/865/rev-wwii.html "USSR Liberated Europe from Nazism Despite Stalin: The Stalinist misleadership seriously endangered the Soviet Union during World War II. Soviet Russia was Hitler's main target and the Nazis almost succeeded in destroying it due to the sabotage of the Stalinist bureaucracy. Stalin's regime had been consolidated by bloody purges in the 1930s in which many of the Red Army's best officers were murdered, including Marshal Tukhachevsky, one of the most brilliant marshals* in the civil war of 1918-21. Stalin trusted the paper promises of his 1939 pact with Hitler. He ignored all warnings from Soviet spies of the coming Nazi invasion and even when it was clearly imminent he ordered the Soviet armed forces not to actively prepare for defence. But it was the Soviet Union, despite Stalin, that took on the vast majority of the Nazi war machine, smashed it and liberated Europe from fascist enslavement. Up until the last year of the war in Europe, nearly 95 per cent of all German troops were engaged against the Soviet forces. By the time the Allied imperialists launched D-Day, the guts of the German army had already been destroyed, especially in the decisive battles of Stalingrad and Kursk in 1943. A truly remarkable example of the Soviet peoples' endurance and heroism was the 900-day siege of Leningrad, where the city's population was mobilised in a fight to the death to defend the city from the Nazis. Over 800,000 citizens died. For example, when a giant armaments factory was attacked by German artillery, the workers formed a battalion and went to the front. In fact the D-Day "second front" was not motivated by finishing Hitler off, but by saving European capitalism from the Soviet Union. The policy of the imperialist "democracies" was to let the USSR, the real arch-enemy of the imperialists, go it alone against German imperialism so they would destroy each other. Only when it was clear that the Soviets were going to win the war did the Western Allies launch D-Day in fear of Europe succumbing to Soviet dominance. Around 28 million Soviet citizens sacrificed their lives in defending the world's first workers state and liberating Europe from Nazism. It was testimony to the superiority of a collectivised, planned economy and the fact that the Soviet working peoples saw they had revolutionary gains to defend that the USSR had the resources and the will to defeat the powerful and barbaric Nazi war machine."
![]() | Belles Will Ring - Broader Than Broadway Broader Than Broadway is the follow up to the hugely successful 2007 debut Mood Patterns by Blue Mountains, Australia outfit, Belles Will Ring. The new mini album harnesses their creative energy to shape a new record that illustrates the depth and breadth of what the band are capable of: lush multi-faceted ballads and straight forward rock songs. As with Mood Patterns, the sprawling soundscapes on Broader Than Broadway were self-produced at Three Shades Green (aka the lounge room of lead vocalist Liam Judson's parents). The introduction to Aidan Roberts (lead guitarist) sharing songwriting credits has consolidated the chemistry of Belles Will Ring, creating a diverse, refined and unified direction now as a 4 piece - originally a 6 piece on the band's conception. The band's songwriting and production capacity has greatly expanded in 2008 with the members individual side projects (Aidan with The Maple Trail, Ivan with Paper Scissors and Liam with The Late Night Sound and production work for The Lovetones and Sister Jane) marking progress and maturity for Belles Will Ring on this release and many more to follow. |
![]() | How Deep is the Comstock? Drill Stops Q1: Do you have a theory of how deep is the Comstock? A1: Most mining districts have a known bottom due to specific geochemical components such as Pressure-Temperature can determine the bottom of a lode district. The bottom of the Comstock Lode District has not been found. Eventual deep drilling will give clues to what is the bottom of the Comstock mineralization, Q2: What do you define as Deep Drilling? A2: Many previous workings in the area of Goldspring control have excavated to depths of 2200 feet. 2,000 feet = Deep Drill 3,000 feet deep is possible for R/C and Core Drilling. Scott has prior experience with several other companies that have drilled much deeper. 4,000 feet deep = near max capability of many drill rigs. Q3: What does it mean when a Drill Report states the "drill bottomed in ore", "ended in a stope" - Why couldn't the drill go deeper? A3: Goldspring activity is over prior extensive underground workings. so there are zones where substantial excavation has created a large volume of air - a stope. When a drill enters a stope from an angle the span of air may be too long so the drill will waggle, like a loose end of a water hose, so much that it can not get a bite into earth on the far side of the cavity. If the twisting continues it could disturb unstable soil causing an underground slide, deform a section of drill pipe locking the tube in the earth and could even break it. Drill bits and sections are expensive, so instead the drilling stops and the drill tube is retracted to the surface. Drilling will continue from another angle as they want to know what is on the other side of the excavated volume of prior underground mining, the stope. Q4: Oxidation of Rock in an Ore Zone, cases of heavy oxidation with many fractures and faults. A4: If drill crosses through such a zone it can put too much torque on the rod - creating a potential for a loss of an entire string of drill rods. Friction with many abrasive minerals can lath cut a drill rod to sever completely. The community of blocks are further verified and refined by correlating the impact of the next shell of blocks further out upon the innermost shell. Then that is done again for another shell outward impacting the 2nd shell and how it impacts the first shell. A simplistic 1st shell can be viewed as a cardboard box and a wad of paper inside as the core block. Therefore each block is impacted by 26 surrounding blocks: Find a cardboard box. With a marker, color each corner. Then color the midpoint of all edges. Then mark the midpoint of each face. Count the spots: A box has _8 corners _6 faces (4-sides with 1-top and 1-bottom) mark the middle of face 12 edges (4-horiz at top, 4-horiz at bottom, 4-verticals) mark middle of each edge ========== 26 spots represent the data of 26 adjacent blocks of subterra Saying the same in a more mathematical sense: a. 8 horizontal adjacent blocks: ____the 4 cardinal directions North and South, East and West (NSEW), plus ____the 4 corners in between: NE, SE, SW and NW; like tic-tack-toe . plus tilt the tic-tack-toe vertically and rotate b. 10 vertical adjacent blocks: ____the 2 blocks above and below, plus ____4 (each end of a vertical "X") ____4 (each end of a vertical "X" rotated 90 degrees) [a 3-D cross like a child's jacks spinner on end] plus c. 8 more 3-D diagonals, vertical and horizontal ____4 by a 45 degree rotatation of the 1st vertical "X" ____4 by a 45 degree rotatation of the 2nd vertical "X" ________(the eight corners of a box) -------------------------- = a total 26 blocks in a basic 1st cubic shell. A second shell next step outward yields even more blocks as each block size remains the same, so the a larger cube-shell further out occupies greater length, width and depth, hence more blocks. Cube-Shell Two: One more row top and bottom plus each side = 5x5 = 25 blocks at front x same at back = 50 front & back At top: 3W x 5L = 15 x same for bottom = 30 top & bottom At last two sides: 3W x 3L = 9 x the other side = 18 last two sides ---------------- = 98 blocks in shell two adjacent to shell one. Core block affected by 2 shells = _26 blocks by shell one _98 blocks by shell two = 124 blocks Shell Three: _98 = 7x7x2 = Front & Back _70 = 7x5x2 = Top & Bottom _50 = 5x5x2 = remaining 2 sides = 218 blocks 124 + 218 = 342 blocks in 3 shells around one core block |
