![]() | 55022 'Royal Scots Grey' visits Oban 06/10/07, Part 2 of 2. We pick up where we left off on the 1Z55 Dundee - Oban with a departure from Taynuilt. We then arrive at Oban where we see a bit of a shunt fest with the 'Deltic' required to change ends ready for the return to Dundee. 37 248 runs round the train and makes a fine sight with 55 022 on the stops, not a common sight at Oban! Once the locos had changed ends they changed platforms which enabled me to film a Class 37 arriving into Oban, something I never go the chance to do when the Caledonian Sleeper was occasionally diverted to Oban during engineering work blockades to Fort William. After checking out the view from McCaigs Tower we make our way back to the station for the 1Z74 16:45 departure to Dundee. Due to the '55' squirming on the slippery rails during the climb out of Oban, 37 248 was on hand to give the occasional nudge from the rear and continued to do so when rail conditions warranted it. We finish at Dundee with 37 248 departing with the 5Z74 empties to Bo'ness. |

![]() | 39. How to Join the Minority of Traders Who Are Successful http://www.informedtrades.com/ A lesson on the importance of the preservation of capital as part of a trading strategy for traders of the stock, futures an forex markets. In our last lesson we looked at what one can reasonably expect to earn from their trading over the long term, and how one can avoid the common misconceptions of most traders which ultimately cause them to fail. In today's lesson we are going to look at the next step in developing a successful money management strategy which is how to manage your losses. One of the main key's to successful trading is the preservation of capital. Beyond the obvious point here that if you loose your trading capital then you will be out of the game, is the fact that it takes much more to come back from a loss than it does to take the loss you are trying to come back from. As an example here lets say you start with $10,000 and loose $5000 from a string of bad trades. That $5000 loss represents a 50% loss on your account which now has $5000 left in it. Now ask yourself this question. What percentage gain will you need to make on the $5000 left in your account in order just to be back to breakeven (the $10,000 level) on your account? If you have done the math correctly you will see that in order to make back the 50% loss you took on your account you will need to make a 100% return or basically be twice as successful in your comeback as you were unsuccessful in your drawdown. It is this concept that is one of the most important to understand in trading, as it underscores the importance of protecting one's trading capital, as it shows the difficulty of coming back from a loss in relation to the ease of taking a loss. It is also most traders lack of understanding of this concept that causes them to take risks which are way to large and is a major contributor to the high failure rate among traders. That's our lesson for today, in tomorrow's lesson we are going to talk about how to design a plan before entering a trade or managing the position in case it starts to move against you so we hope to see you in that lesson. As always if you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them in the comments section below so we can all learn to trade together, and good luck with your trading! |
![]() | Address to Cincinnati Anonymous This is a fairly quick-and-dirty address. Forgive the quality, it's more about the message than the presentation at this point. _____________________________________ Hello Anonymous of Cincinnati. Sunday, February the tenth, will be a monumental day for us. The momentum this cause has gathered is shining proof that many different people, with a common ideal, can change society for the better. Our actions do not come without risk. If we are to succeed in minimizing this risk, there are a few basic guidelines that we must follow. Five, to be exact. They are designed with your preservation, and the preservation of our message, in mind. Rule #1: Your Anonymity is sacred. - Do not use your real name. - Disguise your distinguishing features. Masks are discouraged. Less conspicuous disguises, however, are encouraged. - Remember who we are dealing with. They are known to stalk, harass, and terrorize those who speak out against them. -When leaving this protest, you must take excessive measures to avoid being followed. Rule #2: Peace, the law, and the message come first. - Our effectiveness as activists depends on how we appear to society. - We must be civil, direct, and assertive if we are to be heard and acknowledged. - Most of all, we must obey the law. - If you are harassed by a scientologist, you must return to the crowd, and have other protestors close ranks around you. - If this is not possible, sit on the ground until help arrives. - By being passive in the face of aggression, we diffuse their strategy. Their attempts to make us look like criminals, when faced with our peaceful actions, will only succeed in making them look petty, imbecilic, and malign. Rule #3: You speak only to the public. - This is an extension of rule number two. - You are here to deliver a message to the public, and they are who you are to speak to. - It is useless to respond to those sent to harass you. - Do not make eye contact, and do not respond to their taunts no matter how much they irritate you. - We have designated people to talk to the press and the police. - Do not speak to them unless you have approval or a damned good reason. Rule #4: This is Serious Business. - We are concerned citizens first, members of Anonymous second. - Your memes have no place here. - This is not for lulz. - We are trying to save people's lives. - Any attempt to save lives by doing a barrel roll will result in your ejection from the protest. Rule #5: Dissenters will be disassociated. - Violence will not be tolerated. Period. Exclamation point. One. Period. - If your actions counter the group's intentions, you will be ejected from the protest, by the police if necessary. - The Church is known to plant people to cause a ruckus. They must be identified before they can detract from our image and message. If all of these rules are followed, and a great deal of common sense is applied to this protest, there is no reason we cannot be enormously successful. Let me define success. Our goal is to educate and promote the free flow of knowledge. Scientology considers recruiting one out of every 100 people they encounter a success. For Anonymous, if we can dissuade one person in a hundred from joining this cult, then we have saved a life. We are Anonymous. Our lack of a face is our greatest asset. We are Legion. This is a worldwide movement. With every action, have the confidence that at that very moment, there are thousands who share your goal. We do not forgive those who attempt to silence us with tyranny. We do not forget, our memory is long, and every step we take is toward a greater good. And now, we are expected. |
![]() | DNA: Critical Issues 4 Those Working With Rape Victims Video DNA: Critical Issues for Those Who Work With Victims. Department of Justice. Office of Justice Programs. Office for Victims of Crime. NCJ 211970 - April 2007. This 24-minute video (NCJ 211970) raises awareness for victim advocates, criminal justice practitioners, and others who work with crime victims about the issues involved for those whose cases involve DNA evidence. The video highlights issues such as collection and preservation of evidence, the crime's impact on the victim, victim notification at points along the process, and victim involvement and participation in the process. Today, way too many rape victims continue to encounter the old sexist and racist responses to rape from family, friends, acquaintances, and authorities. As a rape victim, you may encounter some of these reactions, too. Things are definitely not perfect yet. But it should help you to keep in mind how fast things are changing and what this means for you. Only a generation ago, as recently as 1970, there were no rape crisis centers and no national studies on rape. Police rarely took reports, rape victims rarely got justice, and a rape was almost always considered the fault of the victim. Today our society is in the midst of making great changes in its understanding of the injuries and injustices of rape. What this means for you is that when you do encounter negative reactions from others you must not give up. It's very important for you to remind yourself that there are other people right in your own town who do understand. There are people close by who are willing to fight for your rights, and people who are willing to help. The fact that society is in transition also means that even those people who respond poorly to you can often be encouraged and educated to respond better. The old and the new understandings of rape coexist in all of us to one extent or another. Sometimes just by having an advocate or friend talk with the people who are giving you trouble, you can turn their behavior around. So do not give up. Don't fall into isolation and despair. When you run into people who treat you badly, don't panic. If you're willing to get back up and keep looking for help and support, you're very likely to find it. You may not get a hundred percent of what you deserve, but you will find people who will listen. You will find people who will stand at your side, and people who will fight for your rights. And in the process of carrying out your own fight for justice and support, you'll also be making it that much better for the women who come after you, just as thousands of women have done before you. Translated using google, it comes out to roughly what the other sources report: "[...] All things considered, it may be inferred that the 'findings of Lanciano' are absolutely not part of any fabric, whose preservation is due to nature or the hand of man. From the point of view of preservation, can be said without any denial, that those 'findings' should be clearly against any law of Nature." --Obviously it is not a perfect translation, but it reads clearly. ![]() | IBM Genographic Project http://www-03.ibm.com/industries/healthcare/genographic/index.jsp?P_Campaign=6N3EWS56 https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/ ***From Wikipedia*** Field researchers will collect DNA samples from indigenous populations as well as allow for public participation. For US$100 anyone in the world can order a self-testing kit from which a mouth scraping (saliva swab) is obtained, analyzed and the DNA information placed on an Internet accessible database. The process will be completely anonymous and will not test for medically relevant traits. Instead genetic markers on mitochondrial DNA and Y-chromosomes will be used to trace distant ancestry, and each participant is provided with their genetic history. As of June 2007, more than 210,000 people have participated. The US$40m project is a privately-funded collaboration between the National Geographic Society, IBM and the Waitt Family Foundation. The proceeds from the sale of self-testing kits support the Genographic Project's ongoing DNA collection. Parts of the proceeds are said to be ploughed into a Legacy Fund to be spent on cultural preservation projects nominated by indigenous communities. |
