The 'Commando Training Centre Royal Marines' (CTCRM) is the principal military training centre for the British
Royal Marines. It is situated near the village of
Lympstone, between the city of
Exeter, and the town of
Exmouth in
Devon. The centre trains
recruits,
NCOs, and officers of the
Royal Marines as well as volunteers in the
Royal Marines Reserve. In this the Marines differ from the Army and other branches of the services in that Officers basic training is conducted at the same location as that of other ranks.
CTCRM also conducts the
All Arms Commando Course. This is a
commando training course for non-Royal Marine service personnel:
Army,
Royal Navy and
Royal Air Force personnel scheduled to serve with Royal Marine formations, usually 3 Commando Brigade.
CTCRM also conducts a number of specialist courses, mainly aimed at Royal Marines but also training members of other branches of the services. As well as the well known Commando Course CTCRM's range of courses include Platoon weapons instructor, various NCO courses, PTI (Physical Training Instructor),
Viking (BvS10) operator, Signals and Snipers. The latter course trains not only Royal Marine
snipers but also all
SAS snipers. CTCRM has a notably well-stocked small arms museum which has examples of most military small arms of the last century or so.
CTCRM is served by
Lympstone Commando railway station on the "
Avocet Line", which is only open to those having business at the base.
