Wikipedia-bio: Billy Gilman (born William Wendell Gilman III May 24, 1988) is a Grammy-nominated country music singer-songwriter. Born in Hope Valley, Rhode Island, he lives with his parents Bill and Fran Gilman and his younger brother Colin. At 8, he attracted the attention of a local vocal coach, Angela Bacari, who later became his manager. He met and worked with Ray Benson (of Asleep at the Wheel) who helped record demos, including "Roly Poly". He was then signed to Sony Music Nashville. Shortly before his debut album was released, Billy sang "Roly Poly" with Asleep at the Wheel at the ACM awards on May 8, 2000. This was Billy's first televised performance. Billy's first single, One Voice was released on May 20, 2000 and quickly rose to #1 on the Billboard Country Singles Sales Chart, staying there for 5 weeks.  | The Word of Your Body (Sheik/Sater) (NB: I made a careless mistake in the initial credit. The music was written by Duncan Sheik. The words were written by Steven Sater. Apologies.) I saw the musical "Spring Awakening" a few weeks ago while my parents and sister were here for the holidays. The entire show was powerful but this song in particular stood out to me and, although I couldn't remember the melody, I found the chorus lyric tumbling around inside my head over the past several weeks. I finally bought the soundtrack and as soon I head the song again I was obsessed. I spent two days trying to piece together the orchestration. I had to do it by ear since there was no published music -- and I don't think I got it exactly -- but it was a good exercise and, more importantly, gave me a greater appreciation of Duncan Sheik's fantastic composition and Steven Sate's subtle, beautiful lyrics. This version is a combination of two separate versions that are heard during the show. I think it stays true to the spirit of the music, but I wanted to make that clear. I filmed this in my bedroom with my MacBook's iSight camera. I think I did all of this for someone, but I'm kind of afraid to say who. |
