PHILIPS SOLID-STATE LIGHTING SOLUTIONS

(Redirected from Color Kinetics)

'Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions' is a business unit within Philips Lighting's Luminaires group. Their main office is located in Burlington, MA. The business unit makes a variety of LED lighting solutions based off their proprietary DMX512 and Chromasic technologies. They handle a number of high profile projects such as the London Eye[1], and were competing with Philips to install a new lighting system for the Empire State Building [2] when they were still a separate company called Color Kinetics. On June 19, 2007 Philips announced its intention to acquire Color Kinetics at a price of $34 per share, or $688 million for the entire company [3]. On August 15, Color Kinetics announced the proposed takeover had received regulatory approval [4]. On August 27, Philips and Color Kinetics announced the completion of the acquisition [5].
