'Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions' is a business unit within
Philips Lighting's Luminaires group. Their main office is located in Burlington, MA. The business unit makes a variety of LED lighting solutions based off their proprietary
DMX512 and Chromasic technologies. They handle a number of high profile projects such as the
London Eye[1], and were competing with Philips to install a new lighting system for the
Empire State Building [2] when they were still a separate company called Color Kinetics. On June 19, 2007 Philips announced its intention to acquire Color Kinetics at a price of $34 per share, or $688 million for the entire company
[3]. On August 15, Color Kinetics announced the proposed takeover had received regulatory approval
[4]. On August 27, Philips and Color Kinetics announced the completion of the acquisition
[5].
