'Colin James' is a
New Zealand political
journalist and commentator. He is widely renowned as one of New Zealand's best political commentators. He is a life member of the
New Zealand Parliament's
press gallery.
James writes a weekly column in the
New Zealand Herald, Management Magazine, and is often a
television and
radio commentator. He has formerly been editor of the
National Business Review and has also written for the
Far Eastern Economic Review.
Political views
While James believes that, as a journalist, he should not vote, there is often speculation over his political views.
James has been described, by
Nicky Hager, as being "sympathetic to
Brash", and being a "Brash-leaning commentator" a (now former) leader of the
New Zealand National Party.
[1] However, given that James has been sometimes critical of Brash in the past,
[2] and indeed many other politicians both left and right; and given that James has also given praise to politicians from both sides of the political divide, Hager's claim is speculative only.
