Political views

While James believes that, as a journalist, he should not vote, there is often speculation over his political views.
James has been described, by Nicky Hager, as being "sympathetic to Brash", and being a "Brash-leaning commentator" a (now former) leader of the New Zealand National Party.[1] However, given that James has been sometimes critical of Brash in the past, [2] and indeed many other politicians both left and right; and given that James has also given praise to politicians from both sides of the political divide, Hager's claim is speculative only.
