WARPRACtice: Meet the M16A1 Assault Rifle 1/2 dynmicpara
This 2-part U.S. Army video is excellent towards understanding the direct-gas M16 assault rifle but it itself offers some flawed information and bad practices. A better Soldier demonstrator should have been used. 1. Wrong Cycles of Operation The 8 cycles of gas operation are absurdly started at FIRING when NOTHING is going to "fire" if you first don't FEED ammunition into the CHAMBER and LOCK it in. The narration tries to weasel out of this by saying its "assumed that the weapon is already loaded". NOT. You are starting from the wrong cycle. The correct cycles are: FEEDING CHAMBERING LOCKING FIRING UNLOCKING EXTRACTING EJECTING COCKING or "FCL-FUE-EC" as a memory device. 2. The Soldiers demonstrator is one unsafe mo-fo. Every time he can he's putting his finger on the trigger! Even after he's put his weapon selector on safe! The straight trigger finger OFF THE TRIGGER is the best "safety". 3. The Soldier demonstrator unrealistically shows magazine removal and placement back into the ammo pouch and then getting a new one from another mag pouch. Reality is you don't have time for this and if you try to return empty mags to your pouch they are likely to drop to the ground for the enemy to recover them and use them against us. Empty mags should be attached to a snaplink/carabiner by adding gutted 550 cord pull-loops to the bottom floor plates. http://www.combatreform.com/canteencover.htm 4. The video shows dummy or live rounds being ejected from the ejection port area which is unrealistic. How hard would it be to stop the filming and insert an empty cartridge case without a bullet into the chamber to show what is actually ejected? 5. The dirty direct gas system of the M16 long overdue to be replaced by a gas piston system is shown. You should be convinced after seeing the gas travel animation. Another thought becomes clear: CLOSE THE EJECTION PORT COVER EVERY TIME YOU CAN TO KEEP DIRT AND SAND OUT OF THE M16/M4. This should be taught and drilled on constantly to all Soldiers to help the M16/M4 stay clean and functional. 6. The awful BLACK RIFLE camouflage of the M16 is shown. How many Soldiers over the years have been hit by enemy fire and then killed/wounded because of the black color of the M16/M4 betraying their presence and an aimpoint is troubling to consider. There is no reason why the magazines, handguards and buttstock should not be SPRAY PAINTED in a TAN or BROWN color to at least reduce the M16/M4's black to just its middle section and barrel end. These items are inexpensive to replace if some garrison appearance nazi wants rifles to return to black after the war. 7. The lack of an assault sling and collimator "red dot" optics is evident on this early M16 but of course is easily fixed today by numerous add-ons. Teaching people to be competent with guns requires patience and humility; these virtues can be built on to make morally driven people who will not go along with unjust wars like occcupying Iraq to take their resources. Why do you think the U.S. military opposes its members THINKING?
Inside Story - Imprisoned in Gaza - part 2 - Jan 1, 2009
Israel's assault on Gaza has continued into a sixth day, and the death toll has risen to more than 400 people. According to Israel, it is targeting Hamas' military infrastructure, such as rocket launchers and rocket factories. Also under attack are what the Israeli military calls "suspected hideouts" that, for some, are the most disputed targets, because almost anything can be suspected as a hiding place for weapons or Hamas fighters. In practice, government buildings, mosques, the Islamic university of Gaza and a refugee camp have come under attack. After Israel's subjecting Gaza to an aerial pounding for several consecutive days, many Gazans are asking if police stations and government buildings have been, what are now the targets for the continuing bombardment? Many Gazans feel that they themselves are the targets. The Israeli authorities have been accessing the phone networks and making automated calls telling the people of Gaza to leave their homes as an attack in their area is imminent, and this is creating a climate of fear and despair, as the people are unable to travel north into Israel and they are unable to travel south into Egypt as the borders are closed, and to their West they are bordered by the sea. The difficulty for both the Israeli military and the Gaza residents is: The entire Gaza Strip is just 10 km wide and 40 km long and has a population of one and a half million, which makes it one of the most densely populated spots on earth. Civilian casualties are unavoidable. Today's Inside Story presenter Nick Clark is joined by Raanan Gissen, a former Israeli Defense Force official and senior advisor to former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon; Elias Hanna, a retired army general and military analyst; and Ehab Bessaiso, a lecturer in political communications at Cardiff University.
C&C Red Alert 3: Hydrofoil Surveillance Footage
This video shows surveillance footage of the Hydrofoil's(Allies) primary and secondary combat functions. Battlefield reconnaissance has revealed at least these facts about Hydrofoil: • No fly zone -- The hydrofoil packs one heavy-duty anti-air cannon in the Icarcus 20 mm close-in weapons system. Any enemy aircraft entering into the AA gun's significant range quickly receive a withering hail of highly-accurate fire. Between the AA gun's swivel mount and the hydrofoil's top speed, escaping inland tends to be one of the few viable options when faced with this weapon. • The Scramblegun -- Each hydrofoil now comes standard with the Scramblegun weapon jammer, which fits interchangeably into the same hardpoint as the AA gun. As the name suggests, this device disrupts the weapons systems of a target vehicle, Allied preventing it from attacking. Among other benefits, the scramblegun means hydrofoils have a limited ability to defend themselves against surface targets. • Subs on sonar -- Hydrofoil captains spend much of their time watching the skies, which, unfortunately for them, means submarines such as the Soviet Akula-class can sometimes close in for the kill without being noticed. Because hydrofoils are extremely vulnerable to direct attack, they sometimes travel within the safety of an Allied assault destroyer's Black Hole Armor field. • Coastal support -- Even though hydrofoils are unable to move inland (in spite of a number of failed attempts to create amphibious models), they have still proven to be very useful as off-shore support for ground operations. Their anti-air weapons are among the best in the Allies' entire arsenal, and their Scrambleguns have enough range to affect inland targets. This video has no sound.
