PUB CHURCH

(Redirected from Church in a pub)
A 'Pub Church' is a Christian Church which meets in a public house or similar establishment. Their purpose is to exist as authentic Christian communities but without the external trappings of more traditional churches in order to be as accessible as possible to non-churched people.
In the UK examples can be found in Brighton, London and Cardiff. In the United States, Jack Sims and Richard Rossi started churches in bars under the name "Matthew's Party". Matthew's Party received widespread media attention in the 1980s from various sources including CNN, ''USA Today'', the ''LA Times'', and the ''Seattle Post Intelligencer''.
''If 'church' is what happens when people encounter the Risen Jesus and commit themselves to sustaining and deepening that encounter in their encounter with each other, there is plenty of theological room for diversity of rhythm and style, so long as we have ways of indentifying the same living Christ at the heart of every expression of Christian life in common.'' Archbishop Rowan Williams
