CHOIR (ARCHITECTURE)
: ''See also: Choir (disambiguation)''
The 'choir' (sometimes referred to as the 'quire') is the area of a church or cathedral, usually in the western part of the chancel between the nave and sanctuary which houses the altar. The choir is occasionally located in the eastern part of the nave.
This area is often furnished with finely carved and decorated wooden seats known as ''choir stalls'', where the liturgical singers (also known as a "choir") may sit when not performing.
In a cathedral, the bishop's throne or ''cathedra'' is usually located in this space.
