CHIANG MAI UNIVERSITY

'Chiang Mai University' (Thai: มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่) was the first provincial university established in Thailand and the first to be named after the city it is in. The university's main campus of 4 square kilometers stands at the foot of Suthep mountain between Huey Kaew Road and Suthep Road, in Amphoe Muang, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. It is about 4 kilometers from downtown Chiang Mai. Now a highly respected institute of higher education, the university was founded in June 1964 and began offering its first PhD programs in 1976.
In September 2006, three universities in Thailand were ranked as "Excellent" in both the academic and research by Commission on Higher Education. Those are Chiang Mai University, Chulalongkorn University, and Mahidol University.
