CHEVROLET AVEO
General Motors introduced the 'Aveo' in 2003 as a Chevrolet. Competing as a subcompact car in the US against the Scion xA, the Toyota Yaris, and to a lesser degree the Nissan Versa, the Aveo is manufactured by GM Daewoo and based on the Daewoo Kalos. In markets including the United States and Canada and 2004 in North America, the Aveo replaced the slow-selling Daewoo Lanos (Daewoo's North American lineup lasted only from 1999 to 2002).
The Aveo is also a de facto late successor to the Chevrolet Metro subcompact sold only in North America, which had been discontinued in 2001 without a similar replacement. The correct pronunciation of "Aveo" is not clear as some reviewers give it as uh-VAY-oh and others as AH-vay-oh. The Chevrolet web site and literature offer no guidance.
As one of the lowest priced cars offered in the US, the Aveo has offered trim levels from very basic to a level of trim heretofore unusual in the very small car market -- offering features such as a glass moonroof, optional ABS, and keyless entry.
The car is based on a GM Daewoo platform called T200, which is a replacement for the T100 platform used in Daewoo Lanos. There are no other vehicles using that platform, so the vehicle itself is also referred to as T200.
In North America, 5-door hatchback and 4-door sedan models are sold. The new 2007 Aveo sedan debuted in January 2006 at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show. Sales began in North America in August 2006. The car also went on sale in Canada in 2004 as the 'Suzuki Swift+' (hatchback). A Canada-only upscale version was launched in 2005 as the 'Pontiac Wave' (sedan & hatchback). As of the 2007 model year, the Aveo hatchback was renamed 'Aveo5' in the USA, conforming with the naming scheme used by GM Canada (where the T200 hatchback has always been called Aveo5). The Aveo is also sold in Latin American countries such as the 3-door hatchback in Ecuador, and all body styles in Venezuela, Colombia, and Chile.

Other markets
The second-generation Aveo sedan was sold in Western Europe in 2006 and replaced the Chevrolet Kalos sedan. In Eastern Europe, the T200 was sold as 'Chevrolet Aveo' from the beginning. The T250 (second generation) replaced the T200 (first generation) sedan in 2006, retaining the same name. Starting March 2008, the T250 hatchback will replace the Kalos hatchback in the European market.[1]
The T200 is sold as 'Chevrolet Aveo' in Indonesia and Philippines (5-door and 4-door), and South Africa and China (5-door and 4-door). The T250 sedan is sold as 'Chevrolet Lova' in China. The T250 was launched in India in 2006 as 'Chevrolet Aveo' along with the slogan "The Indian Revolution", referencing Chevrolet's American catchphrase "The American Revolution". The T200 hatchback was launched in India in December 2006 featuring a 1.2 liter petrol engine. The T200 hatchback is called the Aveo U-VA in India.
A 1.4LT sedan version is sold in the Philippines, whose specs seem to be a combination of those of the LS and LT. This version already comes with driver and passenger-side airbags, anti-lock braking system, 60/40 split-fold rear seat, fog lamps, a different AM/FM radio with CD player, 14-inch alloy rims and a 14-inch blackwall for the spare, and theft-deterrent system. It has no side airbags, only comes in the charcoal cloth interior, no sunglass holder, only 4 speakers, no aux audio input jack, and its headrests do not tilt.
The 4-door Aveo is sold in Ireland with a Chevrolet badge, while the 5-door model is branded as Daewoo Kalos.

Assembly plants
Most Kalos/Aveos are assembled in the Bupyong plant in South Korea. In Ukraine, Russia and Venezuela, local versions of the Aveo are assembled from CKD. For the Chinese market, Aveos and Lovas are manufactured by Shanghai GM Dongyue.
At least two branches of Chevrolet dealers claim that the 1.4LT Aveo sedan sold in the Philippines is assembled in Thailand, while one branch claims the engine is of Australian origin, though these claims are not validated. The label on the headlights clearly states that, at least those parts, are made in Korea.
