CHESAPEAKE (TRIBE)
The 'Chesapeake Tribe' of Southeastern Virginia was believed to be a tribe that would not become part of the Powhatan Confederacy.
The Chesapeake Tribe of South Eastern Virginia is believed to have been annihilated in the years just prior to the settlement of Jamestown, Virginia by English colonists which began on May 14, 1607. yo man what`s up??!!!
It has been theorized that Powhatan, after consultation with his medicine man, believed that the Chesapeake Indians (aka Chesepian) would be a threat. He ordered the destruction of the tribe in which left no survivors.
Some has speculated that the "Lost Colonists" from Roanoke Island may have emigrated and lived among the Chesapeake tribe before being destroyed by Powhatan.
There are two books by Helen Rountree having to deal with the Native Americans in Virginia during pre-colonial times.
