The figure is taken from that of the Amazon River, from which sure greenish stones were once obtained, but it is questionable whether greenish feldspar occurs in the Amazon region. Amazonite is a mineral of modest happening. Formerly it was obtained nearly solely from the region of Miyask in the Ilmen mountains, 50 miles south of Chehabinsk, Russia, where it occurs in granitic rocks. |
