CHAUSA HOARD

'Chausa hoard' is the oldest collection of Jain bronzes found.
Chausa or Chausagarh is in Buxar district of Bihar, famous for Chausa mangoes.
A set of 18 Jain bronzes were found, which are dated by experts to between Shunga and Gupta period, (from 2nd BCE to 6th cent CE). This makes them the oldest known bronzes found in Gangetic valley in India. They are currently in the Patna museum.
The hoard includes

★ A Dharmacakra

★ A kalpavriksha

★ Sixteen tirthankaras.
Among the tirthankaras, those of Lord Rishabha are easily identified by the locks of hair.
