The city is located in Chascomús Partido in Buenos Aires Province

'Chascomús', is the principal city in Chascomús Partido in eastern Buenos Aires Province in eastern Argentina, located about 123km south of the capital Buenos Aires. As of 2001, the city had a population of 35,174 people.

The city was founded on 30 May 1779 by Pedro Nicolás Escribano.
In 1839 there was a rebellion and battle called the Libres del Sur
In 1873 Chascomús became a city and department.

People


Argentinian president Raúl Ricardo Alfonsín was born in the city.
Other natives include Argentinian professional tennis player Carlos Berlocq

Language


The Mapudungun language is widely spoken within the city and municipality.
