CELTIC CUP (FOOTBALL)

The 'Celtic Cup' is a proposed international football tournament involving nations from the British Isles.
The tournament is initially to include teams from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It will be a knockout tournament with semi-finals, third place playoff and final. The first event is preliminarily scheduled for August 2009 to February 2010.
The Cup was initially due to be a revival of the British Home Championship but due to the lack of interest from the Football Association the Republic of Ireland were invited. The Welsh hold out the possibility of the English joining at a later date.
