CAZENOVIA LAKE


'Cazenovia Lake' is a lake in New York, United States. Cazenovia, New York is located southeast of the lake. The lake is roughly 4 miles (6.5 km) long and 0.5 mile (1 km) wide. It is 65 feet (20 m) at its deepest point.
Cazenovia Lake is drained from its south-east corner which flows into Chittenango Creek about 1/2 mile (800 m) to the east. Chittenango then flows north, over Chittenango Falls and eventually into Oneida Lake's south shore in Bridgeport.
The north end of the lake is very weedy & swampy, almost impossible to motor through.
The lake resides in a valley created by sub-glacial runoff during recession of North American continental glaciers at the end of the last ice age.
Cazenovia Lake's Native American name is "Owahgena," which means "lake of the yellow perch." The lake's USGS elevation is 1,200 feet (366 m) above sea level.
