(Redirected from Canigó)
'Canigou' (
Catalan ''Canigó'') (el. 2785 m./9137 ft.) is a
mountain located in the
Pyrenees of southern
France.
Due to its sharp flanks and its situation in between high mountains and plateaus it was accidentally believed to be the highest mountain in the
Pyrenees.
It is considered by many to be the spiritual home of the Catalan nation and inspired a collection of songs called Canigó, which all begin with the (Catalan words) "Muntanyes de Canigó, fresques són i regalades", like the
poem Canigó by
Jacint Verdaguer i Santaló.
