'Cairine Wilson Secondary School' is an Ottawa-Carleton District School Board high school in Ottawa, Canada. It is the main English language school in the eastern suburb of Orleans. It is located on 975 Orleans Boulevard in the northern edge of the suburb, near the Ottawa River. The school opened in 1975. It was named after Cairine Wilson, Canada's first female Senator. The school is currently home to some 750 students. Its sports teams are known as the Wildcats.
Cairine Wilson has had its share of famous students over the years. Notable students are current Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Robert Esche, Ottawa Bluesfest Director of Operations Michael Rouleau, Ottawa Sun Sports Reporter Bruce Garrioch, CTV News Anchor Kymothy Walker and former 580 CFRA News Anchor/Reporter Ted Yeomans.
On April 20th, 2000, Cairine Wilson was scene to a stabbing which had initially begun with an argument between students. A 15 year old student had pulled out a steak knife, stabbed a fellow student whom he was conversing with, and then ran through the school stabbing another three students and a teachers aide. Michael Jordan, the school principal finally convinced the youth to surrender the weapon. No one was seriously injured, yet the school remained closed for several days, and counselors were made available to students.[1]
