'''Blues for the Red Sun''' is a 1992 (see
1992 in music) album by
stoner rock band
Kyuss. It is named after episode five of
Carl Sagan's '', entitled "Blues for a Red Planet". It is one of the earliest pioneering recordings in stoner rock, a
bass-heavy,
grungey form of
heavy metal. Along with ''
Sleep's Holy Mountain'' by
Sleep and ''
Spine of God'' by
Monster Magnet, it is considered one of the pillars of stoner rock.
In 2001 the album was featured in
''Q'' magazine's list of the
50 Heaviest Albums Of All Time.
