BEL is a Public Sector undertaking that was set up in the field of Electronics by the Indian Government to meet Indian defense requirements in 1954.

History

BEL started in Bangalore in 1954. Initial focus was on valves, Germanium semiconductors and Radars, which evolved over the 1960's and 1970's to include Transmitting Tubes, Silicon Semiconductors, Broadcast equipment, X-Ray Tubes and Defence electronics.
Company is divided into 6 SBU(Strtegic Business Units) which was involved in production of various defence products.
