Bermuda Maritime Museum

Bermuda Maritime Museum is situated within the area of the fortress that belonged to the Royal Naval Dockyard lying at the western end of Bermuda. The dockyard with an area of 10 acres was considered as citadel and arsenal providing protection from any attack. The Keep yard is encircled with three sides with buildings and magazines and the fourth side consists of a statute of Neptune.

Ordance building belonging to the year 1850 was used a storage room for 4,860 Kegs of gunpowder and is among the most famous buildings of the museum. Various other famous buildings are also included in the museum such as commissioners House, which was designed by Edward Holl and was the world’s first residence made from prefabricated cast –iron during 1820s. It gradually decayed with the passage of time but was later restored by 1974. Currently, it is being used to display exhibitions. The basement of the building consists of Bermuda’s Defense Heritage, which includes displays of Bermuda’s fortification and defenses belonging to World War I and World II. Other highlight displays include shipwreck artifacts and local watercrafts.
