BEARSKIN AIRLINES


'Bearskin Lake Air Services Ltd.', trading as 'Bearskin Airlines', is a regional airline based in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada. It operates services in northern Ontario and Manitoba. Its main bases are Sioux Lookout Airport (YXL) and Thunder Bay International Airport (YQT), with a hub at Greater Sudbury Airport (YSB)[1].

History


The airline was established in 1963 and started operations in July 1963. It was founded on the Bearskin Lake reserve. Following the collapse of NorOntair in 1996, Bearskin picked up over two thirds of that carrier's routes. It is owned by Harvey Friesen (President), Cliff Friesen (Executive Vice-President), K Friesen, R Baratta and B Martin and has 240 employees.

Destinations


Bearskin Airlines operates services to the following domestic scheduled destinations (as of January 2005) : Dryden, Flin Flon, Fort Frances, Greater Sudbury, Kapuskasing, Kenora, Lynn Lake, North Bay, Ottawa, Red Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Sioux Lookout, The Pas, Thunder Bay, Timmins, and Winnipeg.
Bearskin has recently announced a route from Waterloo Region to Ottawa.
