History

This breed comes from ancient cows bred in Bazas, a little town in the south of Bordeaux. It is probably the same family-breed as limousin or Blonde d'Aquitaine.

Morphology

The color is grey, with dark skin and pale nose and around the eyes.
Bulls average 1100kg[1] and cows 700kg for 140-145 cm tall.

Use

This breed was a draft breed for working in Bordeaux's grapevines. Since the Second World War, it is a beef breed. Cows gives strong calves which grow fast with good mother's milk. It gives high quality meat. The famous "entrecôte à la bordelaise" owes its notoriety to this breed.
