 | Cold Harbor Battlefield In 1864, Generals Grant and Meade led the Union Army of the Potomac into battle against Robert E. Lee at Cold Harbor, Virginia. On June 3, Grant ordered on assault all across the line against Lee's entrenched troops. The result: anywhere from 3500 to 7000 casualties within roughly twenty minutes. |

 | The Siege of Petersburg: The Battle of the Crater http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Crater When the Civil War began, men fought like they had in the time of Napoleon Bonaparte; divisions of thousands of men, marching forward in formation, firing on the enemy in volleys, reloading and advancing and withdrawing under constant fire. Ulysses S. Grant can oft be credited for retiring this sort of warfare, and introducing that which bludgeoned the bodies and minds of millions---trench warfare. The Siege of Petersburg lasted from June 1864 to March 1865, with both sides digging in their trenches, boosting their fortifications, and waiting for the other to attack, or be starved out. On multiple instances, sallies were attempted. None were as devastating as the Battle of the Crater. The plan was for Union engineers to dig a tunnel directly under Confederate lines, load a pit with explosives, and blow a gaping hole into the Confederate lines. Black troops were specially trained under General Burnside to rush into the breach, fan out, and force the Confederate lines back for more Union troops to enter. The plan failed. General George Meade, commanding general of the Army of the Potomac, feared that the attack would fail, and he would suffer severe political repercussions north due to the use of black troops to breach the Confederate lines. To avoid accusations of racism and political fallout, Meade replaced the specially trained black troops at the last minute. Brigadier General James Ledlie's troops were selected to lead the charge into the breach, but reportedly he failed to tell his men or train them properly, and was drunk on the morning of the battle, away from the front lines, and not providing leadership for his troops. Instead, when Union troops rushed in, they failed to go around, and piled into the crater en masse, thinking it to be of better use as a rifle pit. They were stuck, with more and more troops piling into the pit, and the Confederates began to turn their guns and artillery onto the troops in the pit. By the end of the battle, over 5,000 Union soldiers were killed or wounded, while the Confederates lost slightly over 1,000. |

 | The Battle of Midway AP EURO: Alternative History - Music Video/Story/Short Action Film Seattle, WA Roosevelt had banned exports to Japan because they had conquered Indochina and attempted to conquer parts of China in 1939, and this hurt Japan because 90% of imports were American goods. Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941, in hopes of hindering the U.S. before they joined the war. U.S. declares war the day after. 1/4 of the Pacific had been conquered by Japan, but the U.S. Pacific Fleet was still able to sneak through their chain of conquered countries and bombed Tokyo, leaving Japan ashamed. Soon, they had pursuit to take over Midway, an island in the Pacific just some distance from Hawaii. Obtaining that would increase the Japanese Empire's defense perimeter from the U.S. Midway was invaded, but the U.S. had radar and were able to find the Imperial Fleets. 41 torpedo bombers were sent to atttack, all were destroyed by the Japanese Zero fighter planes, except six survived, but all their torpedos missed. Retreating, the Japanese thought they wou have a good five minutes to refuel and rearm, using the clouds as protection from enemies. Almost ready, 91 U.S. dive-bombers "hell-bombers" appeared through the clouds, attacking the Imperial Fleet in their most vulnerable condition possible. Soon after, the Japanese had been pushed back until the end of their Empire when the atomic bombs were dropped in 1945. But... "What if Japan had won in the Battle of Midway?" I play as Secret Agent L telling the alternate history through my perspective (he's fictional). From how we lost in the battle and how it ended. I did this for my AP Euro Class. Outnumbered 4 to 1 The only reason we would have won Was if we had luck and surprise on our side But who am I? Is this my last goodbye? I would have to deny. I would never hide, or abide to the receding tides. [Verse 2] (US DEFEAT) Yo, waving the white flag as we surrender Losing Midway to the Japanese Empire They now have full control of the Pacific This has saddened everyone not to be specific Roosevelt told everyone to be calm He said "We are still at war but as united as one We stand, and band together, not everything is gone The battle maybe over but the war will still go on" Midway was only some distance away from Hawaii Knowing that an invasion would be a possibility Instead of appeasing to keep the atmosphere cool Un-banning exports to Japan are the ideas of a Fool Pearl Harbor and its defenses would be strengthened To prevent any major attacks like December the 7th So by then the Pacific Fleet will stay on its guard Combatting Nazi Tyranny from afar And from then on, all countries continued to struggle El Alamein, D-day, every battle was a struggle And Japan with its empire continued to expand Into Mongolia, India, and potentially Pakistan Until Hitler was found, having committed suicide And the Nazis would surrender in 1945 Having no gas to spare, which led up to their demise America obtaining weapons not fully realized [Verse 3] (SNEAK INTO JAPAN) America land of the free, home of the brave We take our pride and honor straight to the grave I had taken up a mission to sabotage Midway Taking up a hostage, and impersonating the soldier Japanese prisoner of war, kamikaze fighter A tactic out of desperation I told ya Before the end of the 2nd World War and the Cold War, Before the Iron Curtain had hit the floor White stars to the red sun, and tomorrow would never come, From the bottom we arose, the irony of a concrete rose Bless those who but live life's woes, and also Pray for the misplaced and forgotten souls |

This time it is in the Reservoir, between the Norsemen and the Barbarians (you cannot play as the Barbarians, but you can always pretend XD) I'm striking at the side of the camp where my stupid foes didn't build any wall. My army is made from 2 Triceratops Titans, 1 Log Cannon, I armored Battle Mammoth, Béla level 4, 1 Druid, 6 armored Battle Rhinoes, 8 Crossbow men, 4 armored Kentrosaurs, 2 Warriors and 3 Lancers. All these guys against a few Warriors, Archers and Lancers; and a couple of workers. The only of my units who dies are 1 Warrior, the Log Cannon, 1 Kentrosaur, and 3 of my Rhinoes. All of these died as heroes...XD ------------------------- The battle explained in the army's perspective: First the army marches out from my heavily defended fortress, takes a long march through the cold highlands, and many days later they reach the first buildings. Wich are 1 small defense tower, and a Marketplace. The soldiers mercilessely kills the workers there and destroy both buildings. A small force is sent by the norsemen (1 Warrior and 2 Battle Tanks). The force is quickly defeated, but 1 Warrior and Kentrosaur + the Log Cannon mammoth dies. And the army stops for resting and healing their wounds. When they are ready, the Triceratops Titans are sent to destroy the defense towers. The Titans gets deeply wounded and are reinforced by the Rhinoes. ------------------------- Despite their wounds, everyone are fine, and the destruction of the Norsemen village can begin. The temple goes the same way as every other building: SMashed to the Ground. But one of the heroic Rhinoes gets killed by a tower. The destruction of the Town Center begins, and if they would be defeated, the Druid infects it, so their food will be bad. ANother Rhino is killed. The destruction remains successful, and it's just a small loss of troops. ------------------------- The entire village is now destroyed, and the only building left is the Harbor. And the only units who can defend it are the Dragon Boats. They arent made for fighting such a huge forse and are destroyed very fast...The war between Norsemen and Barbarians was over. |
