AYABE, KYOTO

is a city located in Kyoto, Japan.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 38,485 and the density of 110.87 persons per km². The total area is 347.11 km².
The city was founded on August 1, 1950.
Ayabe is a beautiful situated in the mountains of Northern Kyoto prefecture. You can get there by train from Kyoto station or by car in an hour and a half.
It is famous for several things, mainly the founding of a Buddhist sect. In August you can view fireflies from Kanbayashi, which is on the Kanbayashi bus route and takes 40 minutes through beautiful country scenery. In the same area is a hotspring area and development is underway for a new hotspring to be opened by the JR Ayabe station. Ayabe's slightly inconvenient location makes has left it quite unchanged and traditional and a nice peaceful place to live.
