 | CAMPAIGNING FOR CHANGES TO LEGAL AID - Part 1 http://www.lothian-tv.org - THIS VIDEO IS ABOUT MY CAMPAIGN TO HAVE CHANGES IN OUR CURRENT ACCESS TO JUSTICE LAW AS IT RELATES TO LEGAL AID The Citizen Advice Bureau is not financially equipped to help the less fortunate in UK society to get justice in a court of law and the employment tribunal. The No-Win-No-Fee scheme is a sham designed to suppress the rights of the poor in favour of insurance companies who underwritten the liabilities of large companies and employers in general. The court, employment tribunal, ombudsman services, the Office of the Information Commissioner is corrupt and in effect has left the ordinary people without genuine access to justice. This is why we need changes...and the reasons why legal aid should be replaced by a legal expenses scheme. Its operation should be, for example: that those working would be required to make a weekly contribution from their earnings through PAYE. If you are unemployed for whatever reason and claiming benefits, your contribution would be made by the State similar to NIS contributions. Where the court proceeding is a criminal one and if your liberty is at stake and you are not a member of the Scheme for lawful reasons, the State should appoint a public defender. Where you are a member of the Scheme and you wish to bring a claim or defence yourself against a claim, you should be able to apply and obtain a certificate. That certificate should allow the applicant/litigant to find a Solicitor of his/her choice to advice him/her and take the matter to a court or tribunal of law. The type of claim should be irrelevant. All you should need to show is that you have a valid cause of action or defence or both and that you are a paid up member of the Scheme. I also would like to see Solicitors and Barristers fees regulated and unified to deter corruption. For the abovementioned reasons, I am calling on the Prime Minister to Institute changes in the UK access to justice laws to provide for a compulsory contributory legal expenses scheme to be administered by the government's statutory agency to cover all claim or defence where a valid cause of action or defence is evident at the point of application. We also call on the Prime Minister to seriously address the issue of corruption in our court and legal services, that the law be further change to provide for video cameras to be placed in all our courts and tribunals aiming to stop corrupt practices, class and race discrimination in our court, tribunal and legal services; for corruption to be infer against officers and staff of the court services on the bases of evidence of bias and or discriminatory treatment against the financially weaker party to legal proceedings. Further, in such instance, that immunity from lawsuit be revoked opening up the offending court's officer or admin staff to civil legal action in addition to any possible criminal proceeding for corruption. Further, that the law be amended to automatically include the costs for a copy of the case transcript of the hearing or trial and the claimant and defendant's immediate and automatic right to a genuine copy of that transcript; that the transcript be removed from the control of the trial judge and trial court or tribunal as it relates to safeguard against tampering with evidence.
