Pontiac's Jim Yates A-10 Simulator/Spangdahlem Air Base
RAMSTEIN AB, Germany, Nov. 19, 2007 - A group of goodwill ambassadors from the NHRA have just completed a three-day USO-sponsored tour of U.S. Military installations in Germany, including the Kaiserslautern Military Community, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Spangdahlem Air Base and the U.S. Army Garrison at Baumholder. It was the third consecutive post-season visit for the drivers, and the brief but memorable time spent with the troops and their families provided an opportunity to make some new friends and see some familiar faces. Six-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Warren Johnson, two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Jim Yates, Funny Car driver Tommy Johnson Jr., and Top Fuel drivers Cory McClenathan and Melanie Troxel represented the sport of drag racing during the 72-hour troop-morale mission to Germany. As in the two previous post-season trips, the Army Special Forces Association, Randall Shughart Chapter 64, based in Carlisle, Pa. served as the vanguard for this year's visit and the 435th Services Squadron at Ramstein AB hosted the group during its stay in Germany. The drivers met race fans at five different military installations and at over 15 different locations during their stay. They also distributed over 1,500 goody bags which included racing caps, tee-shirts, racing decals and other items, signed an even greater number of autographs and brought smiles of appreciation to the faces of everyone they met. Each driver took advantage of an opportunity to climb into an A-10 simulator for some exciting real-time, in-flight instruction.

Aero-TV Special Series: Understanding The Pilot Shortage
This Episode Features A Presentation By Kit Darby, AIR Inc. (Part One In A Series Examining A Ponderous Issue) We've been hearing about it for years... a pilot shortage... a critical one, at that. For many in the aviation community, it sounded like good news... at least if you were on the bottom rungs of the pilot hiring ladder and working desperately to climb your way up. However; after engaging in discussions thorough the industry over the last year and in attending a particularly pointed (and very well-organized) presentation at the FAA Forecast Conference some months ago, ANN and Aero-TV are left with the troubling impression that aviation has a BIG problem on its hands. The session devoted to discussing the Pilot Supply was, as indicated earlier, exceptionally produced and wholly on target. the session was presented by Moderator Peter J. Wolfe, Executive Director, Professional Aviation Board of Certification (PABC), and augmented by presentations delivered by Kit Darby, President, AIR, Inc, Captain Paul Rice, First Vice President, Air Line Pilots Association, International, Ron Levy, University Aviation Association, John Dixon, Director of Pilot Recruitment for American Eagle. The first presentation, and one that set quite a trend for the session, was delivered by Kit Darby. Kit Darby is the president of Aviation Information Resources (AIR, Inc.). Currently a B767 captain with United Airlines, Mr. Darby has interviewed 20 times with 16 different airlines and worked with three majors and one national airline since 1978. He has a BS in Aeronautical Studies from Embry-Riddle AU. Kit is coauthor of the Simulator Flying Guide, Beginners' Guide to Becoming a Career Pilot, the World Wide Pilot Supply Report, World Wide Jet Transport Simulator Study and the new Pilot Career Guide. Kit's flight experience includes 15,000 hours total time, 10,000 hours jet time. He has an ATP with B737, B727, DC-8, and B767 type ratings, flight/instrument and engineer instructor, commercial instrument helicopter pilot, ...

KHOPCA Clusterng Algorithm: Simulation Run (3)
The video shows how k-hop sized clusters can be formed and maintained by solely using local neighborhood information. k-hop sized The video shows how k-hop sized clusters can be formed and maintained by solely using local neighborhood information. k-hop sized clusters are clusters where nodes are at most k-hops away from the clusterhead, i.e. with a cluster diameter of at most 2k. The presented k-hop clustering algorithm, called KHOPCA, takes advantage of nodes' mobility in order to form and maintain k-hop sized clusters. The simulation has been done with the JANE (Java-based Ad hoc Network Simulation Environment). References: Brust, M. R., H. Frey, et al. (2008). Grand Opening of nees@berkeley Facility
The grand opening of nees@berkeley had been coordinated with the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) Dinner Program. The evening featured brief statements by invited dignitaries, a laboratory tour including exciting demonstration experiments, refreshments and a catered dinner. This was followed by a presentation by Professors Mahin, Stojadinovic, and Moehle, who were responsible for development of the new facility. The presentation introduced NEES, described the special capabilities of nees@berkeley, including the new hybrid simulation capability, and through an open dialogue with attendees explored ways that SEAONC engineers can join in to utilize the unique new facility to advance earthquake engineering practice.
