The 'Association of Conservative Clubs' is an organisation associated with the
Conservative Party in the
United Kingdom. It represents and provides support to the largest association of political clubs in the country estimated at 1,100.
Such clubs can vary from Conservative Working Men's Clubs to more prestigious clubs known as Constitutional Clubs. Sometimes Conservative Clubs are called Unionist Clubs or Beaconsfield Clubs (after
Lord Beaconsfield). These clubs can offer a wide range of facilities, including
snooker, bar games and entertainment.
There are also
Labour and
Liberal clubs but these tend not to keep their political affiliation in the same way.
Some clubs have been under increasing pressure to change their rules to allow full membership rights to women. Generally this has been resisted as has pressure to ban
smoking.
