AREA CODE 775

North American 'area code 775' is a state of Nevada telephone area code which
was split from Area code 702 on December 12, 1998 and finished May 15, 1999. 775 encompasses all of the state of Nevada except for Clark County including the Las Vegas metropolitan area.
It has been rumored that Nevada was denied the issuing of 777 due to the NANP not issuing area codes with the second two digits matching. Some have suggested further that 775 could mean 77L (L for lemon), suggesting people's luck in casinos throughout Nevada.
A 775 area code may also originate from a user of the Gizmo Project VoIP service, as the Gizmo Project will provide a 775 phone number at no charge upon request. Unlike phone calls made from Skype to a regular phone number, Gizmo 775 phone numbers will appear on the recipient's Caller ID. As these calls originate from the Internet, the location of the caller cannot be presumed.
