AREA CODE 450

'Area code 450' is a telephone area code in the Canadian province of Quebec, encompassing the suburban area around the island of Montreal (which is the area code 514 and soon 438). The two other area codes of Quebec are 819 and 418. The area code is also shared by several small communities in an adjacent part of Ontario: some landline customers in Chute-à-Blondeau (East Hawkesbury), near Pointe-Fortune have 450-451-xxxx numbers from the Rigaud phone exchange.
The biggest cities served by area code 450 are Laval and Longueuil.
The communities of Joliette, Saint-Hyacinthe, Granby, Saint-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu and Vaudreuil-Dorion are also part of this area code.
Since its introduction, area code 450 has been associated with various stereotypes of Suburbia, mainly by residents of the 514 area['']. This distinction between urbanites and suburbanites is reinforced by the fact that Montreal is an island, making the presumed cultural divide as clear as the geographical separation. The stereotype of the "450" is now widely known across Quebec thanks, in part, to its extensive use by several comedy television shows, such as ''450, Chemin du Golf''.
The main incumbent local exchange carrier in 450 is Bell Canada, plus some independent companies.
