APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA


'Apache Junction' is a city primarily in Pinal County, Arizona, USA, with a small portion in Maricopa County. According to 2005 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 32,297. Annual Estimates of the Population for All Incorporated Places in Arizona
Apache Junction is named for the junction of the Apache Trail and U.S. Highway 60. Superstition Mountain, the westernmost peak of the Superstition Mountains, is nearby.

Apache Junction is at (33.415035, -111.546025).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of 88.7 km² (34.2 mi²). All of it is land; none is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there were 31,814 people, 13,775 households, and 9,008 families residing in the city. The population density was 358.9/km² (929.3/mi²). There were 22,771 housing units at an average density of 256.8/km² (665.1/mi²).
Racial composition

The racial makeup of the city was 92.66% White, 0.61% Black or African American, 0.99% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 3.11% from other races, and 2.03% from two or more races. 8.80% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Households

There were 13,775 households out of which 22.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.9% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.75.
In the city the population was spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 25.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males.
Income

The median income for a household in the city was $33,170, and the median income for a family was $37,726. Males had a median income of $31,283 versus $22,836 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,806. About 7.3% of families and 11.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 18.4% of those under age 18 and 7.4% of those age 65 or over.
