'Anti-Lebanon' is a
mountain range of mainly
Lebanon, but also
Syria, and
Israel. It runs east of and parallel to the
Mount Lebanon range.
The range's length is approximately 150 km; the highest peaks are Mount
Hermon (Jabalu sh-Shaykh, in Arabic جبل الشيخ) on the
Israeli-
Lebanese-
Syrian Border, at 2,814 metres, which is the range's most southern point, and
Ta'a Musa at 2,669 metres.
The border between Syria and Lebanon is to a large extent defined by a line drawn along the crest of the range. In the north the Anti-Lebanon extends to the latitude of the Syrian city of
Homs. To its west lies the
Beqaa Valley, which divides it from the Lebanon range. To the east, in Syria, lies the
Helbun valley which contains the city of
Damascus.
