DESCHAMPSIA ANTARCTICA

(Redirected from Antarctic hair grass)

'''Deschampsia antarctica''' ('Antarctic hair grass') is one of two flowering plants native to Antarctica, the other being ''Colobanthus quitensis'' (Antarctic pearlwort). Due to a recent warming trend, more seeds are germinating, creating a large number of seedlings and plants. Reports indicate a twenty-five-fold increase in plants as a result which has caused these plants to extend their range southward and cover more extensive areas. This species extends south of 56 degrees south latitude.
